Recycled Road Base 1 1/2" Minus

Sustainable Strength with Recycled Road Base

Recycled Road Base  1 1/2" Minus is an environmentally friendly solution that repurposes demolished concrete and masonry, reducing landfill waste while providing a robust, durable foundation for various construction projects. Made from recycled materials, it offers the strength and stability needed for subgrade applications, with the added benefit of sustainability.

Key Features:

  • Composition: This road base is primarily produced from recycled concrete and asphalt with a blend of coarse dirt and rock particles.
  • Particle Size: It contains pieces up to 1.5" in diameter, with smaller particles or "fines" that help bind the larger rocks together, creating a compact, sturdy surface.
  • Color: Exhibits a tan and brown hue, blending naturally into construction and landscape projects.

Benefits:

  • Eco-Friendly: Using recycled materials reduces the demand for new raw resources and diverts waste from landfills.
  • High Compaction: Ideal for projects requiring a solid foundation with its varied particle sizes ensure strong compaction, making it suitable for roads, driveways, patios, and parking lots.
  • Cost-Effective: A budget-friendly option for homeowners and contractors alike, providing long-lasting stability without the higher price tag of new materials.

Ideal Use Applications:

  • Subbase for Roads & Parking Lots: Offers a reliable foundation under asphalt, concrete, or pavers, ensuring durability and compaction.
  • Backfill: Effective for filling trenches or other spaces needing a stable, well-compacted material.
  • Driveways: Offers a durable, stable base layer that can be topped with decorative rock, gravel, asphalt, concrete, or pavers, elevating both the strength and curb appeal of your driveway.

Important Considerations:

  • Compaction Required: To achieve the best results, recycled road base must be compacted. Plan for a 1/4" reduction in depth per inch of material laid.
  • Surface Coverage: Without a top layer of asphalt or concrete, this material may become muddy when exposed to moisture.

Best Results:

For best results and to reduce weed growth, install base around 3" - 6" deep while compacting using a vibrating plate compactor and spraying with light amount of water while compacting. Typically you will see between 15% - 25% compaction when using a plate compactor. This compaction may require ordering additional material amount that standard coverages indicate.

  • Using a subgrade base material and properly compacting will help your project last going forward. This is especially important if you are installing a patio or concrete area, where sod or grass used to be as the soil there is not a well graded compactable material in most cases.
